Our Story

Clay Umland got his start as a pipeline welder in Texas. When he got out of the pipeline work, he moved into building cell towers and the fencing around them. Somewhere along the way he put the two trades together and started building fence out of old oil field pipe. That idea became Torch and Timber Customs, and about a year ago the business took off. Today Torch and Timber builds pipe fence and wood fence, along with custom gates, entryways, and metal fabrication, for homes and properties across the Bitterroot Valley and the Missoula area. Every fence is built by a welder who knows steel and takes pride in work that lasts.
